Best Man The best man can be a friend, your brother, father, uncle, or cousin. He should be someone you are close to and can depend on in desperate times. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and though it may be nice to invite a companion or acquaintance, choose close loved-ones for this position.
The best man should keep you sane on your wedding day. He can also throw a bachelor party, watch over your rings, participate in the ceremony, and signing the wedding certificate. The best man also escorts the maid/matron of honor at the pre-wedding celebrations. He also begins the reception with a toast to you and your bride, and after you and your bride dance, he dances with the maid/matron of honor.
Ushers Ushers are very important at the ceremony. They seat guest, attend the bachelor party, and often stand at the front of the church during the ceremony. There is usually one usher for every 50 guests, but it is good to check with the bride as to how many she wants. She might want the same number as she has bridesmaids.
You should appoint a "head usher" to coordinate the others' efforts at the ceremony. Ushers stand by the door and when people arrive, they ask whether they are the bride or groom's guests. They offer their right arm to the senior woman of the group and lead her to her seat, as the others follow her lead. If a man arrives alone, he is taken to his seat with no physical contact. Politely ask him to follow you. The second-to-last to be seated are the mothers/grandmothers/great-grandmothers of the groom, and then those of the bride. Once everyone is seated, the groomsmen assume their formation and the ceremony begins. At the reception, they then dance with the bridesmaids.
When you have chosen your close support unit, fill the list with close friends and family members, even men from the brides family. Do this in plenty of time to select formalwear and to adjust schedules. Make sure everyone attends the rehearsal.
